Alana's life is turned upside down when her uncle Poppie reveals he was hired to kill her when she was only an infant. It took only a smile to make him refuse to end her life. She then learns she is a princess and must go back to her birth country to prove she is the king's heir in order to avoid a war. That doesn't prove to be easy since many girls over the years have tried to prove they were the king's lost princess. The captain of the palace guards, Christoph, tries to determine whether or not she is really the long-lost princess while trying to protect her and falling in love with her.

Alana is a tough lady capable of protecting herself with all of the training she received growing up but she still needs Christoph's protection. I would've liked to see Alana in action using her weapons and be a kick-ass heroine. At times, I found her immature. I really liked Christoph though. As for Poppy, I wish we would've seen more of him in the book.

When Passion Rules is an interesting novel. Being the first book I've read by Johanna Lindsey, I am quite impressed.  The plot has twists and turns which kept me turning the pages for more. I will certainly check out some of her previous work.


When Passion Rules is overall a great read. It may not be as steamy as the cover and the title suggest but fans of historical romances will enjoy reading this book.
